DeMoss still mulling Nebraska opening
Story from the Knoxville News-Sentinel

By News-Sentinel staff

Tennessee Lady Vols associate head coach Mickie DeMoss is still gathering and processing information about the women's basketball coaching vacancy at the University of Nebraska.

Cornhuskers athletics director Bill Byrne traveled to Knoxville on Monday and met with DeMoss.

After the meeting, DeMoss indicated she would take two days to process the information before deciding if she would travel to Lincoln, Neb., for a formal interview.

DeMoss' self-imposed, two-day deadline passed Wednesday night.

DeMoss told the Lincoln Journal Star she would decide today if she'll make the trip to NU.

"It's a huge move for me, and I'm a very analytical kind of person," DeMoss said. "I'm certainly not going to deliberately drag anything out."

DeMoss, who's been an assistant to coach Pat Summitt the past 17 seasons, is considered the leading candidate to replace Paul Sanderford - who resigned last week because of health problems.

DeMoss indicated that one of her main concerns is the timing of the coaching vacancy.

"It puts recruiting at a really critical place right now. I'm thinking, 'Can it be done, can me and my staff jump in there and get some of the top kids that can make a difference to come to Nebraska this late?' "

DeMoss declined to say if she's been offered the job, but said a salary package has been discussed.
